I am a PhD candidate in Computer Science at the University of California Santa Cruz since September 2012. I work under supervision of Prof. Marilyn A. Walker at Natural Language and Dialogue Systems (NLDS) Lab.

Utilizing computers to understand and process human languages is what I find most appealing and most practically useful in computer science. Probabilistic and machine learning approaches to process and mine meaning from natural languages especially in text format is my major interest of research. I am currently exploring different narrative discourse theories and new ways of automatically learning higher level structures and patterns from different narrative sources.
I completed my undergraduate studies at Sharif University of Technology and received my M.Sc from the University of Tehran, both in Computer Software Engineering.

Research Interests:
Natural Language Processing, Narrative Discourse Analysis, Text Mining, Machine Learning, Computational Linguistics, Crowdsourcing
